Elizabeth “Ann” Arrington was born in Loving, New Mexico on November 14, 1936, to Claude and Mary Arrington. She graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1953. On August 7, 1953, she married her best friend Sammy Clark at the First Assembly of God Church. They would go on to spend 65 ½ years together and have three beautiful daughters.
She worked at Collins Gerrells and several finance companies. In 1960, she and Sammy bought a 10-acre farm where they raised calves, farmed cotton, and grew alfalfa. They owned and operated Jay’s Drive Inn restaurant from 1972 to 1978. In 1978 they bought a sixteen section ranch. Farming and ranching was their passion. Ann was a smart business woman who kept detailed records of each cow and every mile of fence that needed mending.
She believed in the importance of voting. She served as an election judge for several years. Her love of genealogy made her a natural family historian. She loved sharing family photos, letters, and stories. Ann was a great listener, a talented writer, and a wonderful storyteller.
She was an amazing cook and an adored friend. She opened her home to anyone who needed a good laugh, a cup of coffee, or a hot meal. She looked forward to having lunch with her “ladies” each month. She was a teacher at heart who loved reading stories and poems to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In previous years, she loved dancing with Sammy at the senior center dances.
On Christmas day, Ann passed away peacefully in her home and went to be with her husband Sammy Clark. She leaves behind a legacy of a strong woman, a true friend, and a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Sammy Clark; grandson, James Slusher and sister, Claudine Walls.
Survivors are her daughters: Cheryl Clark of Carlsbad, NM, Carla Clark of Carlsbad, NM and Sammie Stephens and husband, Scott of Ft. Collins, Colorado; grandchildren: Dustin Lee Slusher and Amber Lace Slusher and fiancé, Jose Campos; great-grandsons: Hayden Smith and Lucas Josiah Campos; brother-in-law, Larry Clark and wife, Joni of Katy, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Jose Campos, Jimmy Brown, Jeff Acosta, Vance Galloway, Cody Brown, and Hunter Brown.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Dustin Slusher, Hayden Smith, Jack Ingram, Larry Clark, Scott Stephens, Bill Gillock, Martin Lee Fanning, and Lucas Campos. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com
