Willie Marie Thorne

Willie Marie Thorne, 66, of Standpipe Road, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away January 23, 2010 at Covenant Medical Center. Visitation will be 2:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Thursday, January 28, 2010 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, January 29, 2010, 2:00 PM, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tommy Lawson officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Willie was born February 1, 1943 in Tahoka, TX where she was raised. She married Robert T. Thorne, October 14, 1961 in Tahoka. Willie and Bobby moved to Carlsbad in 1972. She went to work for the school system and eventually retired as cafeteria manager at ECEC after 27 years of service. Willie always loved being with the kindergarten children. She enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking, sewing and feeding the many species of birds in their backyard. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy and Clifford Gandy and sister, Rita Mason. She is survived by her husband, Bobby Thorne of Carlsbad, NM; two aughters:Zondra Thorne of Lubbock, TX, Rondah Courtney of Carlsbad, NM; son, Robert Curtis Thorne of Carlsbad, NM, four grandchildren: Lindzi and Cole Courtney, Chaz Thorne and Alexa Quintela; three brothers: Jimmy Brown and wife, Trudy of Grove, OK, Menford Gandy and wife, Sharon of Tahoka, TX, Berry Gandy and wife, Pam of Lubbock, TX; two sisters: Cherry Gandy of Tahoka, TX, Kay Gandy of Tahoka, TX and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Ralph Thorne, Randy Thorne, Donnie Thorne, Verl Thorne, Marion Torne and Paul Kartchner. Honorary pallbearers are Menford Gandy, Glenn Schrock and Charlie Mason.
