William "Bill" Owens

Obituary William Bill Owens, 91, of West Pierce Street, Carlsbad, New Mexico passed asway on Tuesday, June 2, 2020, at Lakeview Christian Home. Bill was born on December 15, 1928, in Beaver, OK to John and Iva Owens. There will be no visitation, and a graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, June 5, 2020, at the new section of the Carlsbad Cemetery Carlsbad, New Mexico with Associate Pastor Kevin Pence Officiating. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of making arrangements. Bill graduated from Portales High School in 1946, and then signed up to be in the U.S. Army. He served as a paratrooper in Japan, and then took stations in Tennessee, Kentucky, Ft. Meade, Maryland and then Korea. While in high school, Bill met the love of his life, Dorothy Dennis, and after his time in the service they got married on April 3, 1949, in Clovis, NM. They then moved to Carlsbad, NM in July 1950 and started their family, having three children. For work, Bill worked at PCA for 7 years as a painter, and then became self-employed as a painter and contractor. Bill was a long-time member of First Baptist Church, and was very involved with different ministries there. He was also a VFW life member #3277. Bill also enjoyed gardening, camping, motorcycle riding, traveling and spending quality time with his friends and family. He will be deeply missed and never forgotten. Bill was preceded in death by his father, John Owens; mother, Iva Owens; wife, Dorothy Owens; daughter, Debra Ann King; and brothers: Kenneth E. Owens, Marion Owens, Sherman L. Owens; and sister, Maxine Young. Bill is survived by his son, Robert Owens and wife, Terri of Carlsbad, NM; daughter, Carolyn Nance and husband, Bobby of Carlsbad, NM; four grandchildren: Chris Owens, Stacy Owens, Leighanne Wright, and Chad Nance; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In Lieu of flower, the family has asked the memorial contributions be made to the New Mexico Christian Childrens Home: 1356 NM 236, Portales, New Mexico 88130.
