Wanda Taylor was born in Dombey, Oklahoma to Harvey and Lucille (Harris) Howell during the Great Depression and in the midst of the Dust Bowl. She accepted Jesus as her Savior at a young age and recalls getting baptized in a large trough. She graduated valedictorian of her high school. In 1954, she earned a bachelor's degree from Panhandle A & M, Goodwell, OK majoring in Elementary Education and History. There she was actively involved with the Baptist Student Union, Zeta Gamma, FTA, and Museum Club. She moved to Carlsbad, NM for her first teacher position at Pate Elementary. She met the love of her life, Bill G. Taylor, while attending FBC Carlsbad, and they were married June 24, 1956 in Adams, Oklahoma.

She had a heart for teaching young people about Jesus. She was a church pianist (La Huerta Baptist and Ranch Acres Baptist), playing hymns, teaching children's Sunday School classes, attending Women's Missionary Union meetings and serving on various committees. In her later years she returned attending FBC and enjoyed studying in a Women's Bible Study class prior to the pandemic. She actively enjoyed fellowships at Carlsbad's Christian Women's Club luncheons. She was very kind, generous, reliable, loyal and calm. She liked playing games and reading. Wanda was preceded in death by her parents: Harvey and Lucille Howell, and husband of forty-six years: Bill Taylor.

Survivors are sons: Harvey Taylor of Carlsbad and Bill (Rosy) Taylor Jr of Rio Rancho, NM; daughters: Kathy (Steve) Smith of Portales, NM, Carolyn (Mike) Schrock of Carlsbad and Marilyn (Jeff) Taylor Davis of Carlsbad; sister Dyan Smith of Felt, OK; grandchildren: Jeremy (Ami) Smith, Timothy Smith, Michael Taylor, and Rachel Taylor.
