Usvaldo V. Montoya, III

Usvaldo V. Montoya, III “Gordo”, 25, of Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Sunday, October 31, 2021, at Carlsbad Medical Center. Usvaldo was born March 24, 1996, in Carlsbad, New Mexico to Usvaldo Montoya, Jr. and Rosario (Lerma) Montoya.

Visitation is scheduled from 4:00 to 6:00 PM Thursday, November 4, 2021, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel followed by a vigil at 6:00 PM. Cremation will follow, and Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 2:00 PM Friday, November 5, 2021, at San Jose Catholic Church with Fr. Juan Carlos Ramirez officiating. Interment will follow in Santa Catarina Cemetery. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Growing up, Usvaldo learned to be a hard worker, always helping out his grandfather and uncles. This paired with his kind heart, made him always be there for others, helping in any way he could. He was known for his gentle spirit, big welcoming smile, protective nature, being a jokester, and liking to wake up early. Some of his hobbies were going fishing, hunting, camping, hanging out by the river, football, and figuring what was around to snack on. Usvaldo was a loving father, son, brother, and nephew, and he will be dearly missed and never forgotten.

Usvaldo was preceded in death by his grandparents: Usvaldo and Sally Montoya, Sr.; grandmother, Rosa Lerma; and great-grandmother, Felipa Lerma.

Usvaldo is survived by his daughter, E’Lyiah Montoya of Carlsbad, NM; father, Usvaldo Montoya, Jr. of Carlsbad, NM; mother, Rosario (Lerma) Montoya of Carlsbad, NM; sister, RoseMarie Montoya and Kyle Storey of Carlsbad, NM; brother, Damian Lee Montoya of Carlsbad, NM; great-grandmother, Ramona Montoya of Carlsbad, NM; aunts and uncles from Carlsbad, NM: Ann Marie Pineda, Esmeralda and Jerry Carrasco, Manuel Montoya, Vanessa Montoya, Carlos Montoya, and Vincent and Kimberly Montoya; and numerous great aunts, great uncles, and cousins.
