Truman O. Ferguson, 96, formerly of N. Sixth Street, Carlsbad, New Mexico passed away peacefully June 6, 2026 at Blount Memorial Hospital in Maryville, TN after a short illness. He relocated to Vonore, TN to live with his oldest son in April, 2026.
Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, July 17, 2026, 10:00 AM at First Baptist Church, Carlsbad, NM with Pastor Howell Scott officiating.
Truman was born March 7, 1930 in Bangs, Texas to Elisha D. and Mary (Evrage) Ferguson. He attended school in Goldthwaite, Texas where he graduated high school in 1948. He moved to Carlsbad after graduating and worked at a gas station on the corner of Church and N. Main streets prior to enlisting in the Army in 1949. In 1950 he was transferred to Ft. Sill, OK where he met and married Phyllis F. Davis in February 1951. He left the Army as a SGT when his enlistment ended. They returned to Carlsbad in 1953 and he worked at Potash Company of America for 42 years, where many of his co-workers knew him as “Wildcat”. He was a member of Cavemen Good Sams, Campers on Missions, Woodmen of the World and a member of First Baptist Church. Truman and Phyllis had many friends and enjoyed traveling, fishing, community service, and genealogy. Truman was known as a man of great faith reading his bible daily and had a great sense of humor, as he enjoyed joking with friends and family. Phyllis preceded Truman in death in 2016. Survivors include his sons Greg (Rhonda) of Vonore, TN and Grady (Ann) of Carlsbad and several grand and great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 112 N. Alameda St., Carlsbad, NM 88220.
