Sylvia Teresa Legarreta Hernandez

Sylvia was born August 16, 1956, in Cd Camargo, Chihuahua, Mexico to Salvador and Maria De Jesus Legarreta. She was the youngest sibling of fourteen brothers and sisters. As a young girl, she grew up helping along with her brothers and sisters at their father’s business, Fruteria Legarreta. Then in 1970, she met the love of her life, Eduardo P. Hernandez, and they were married in 1973, going on to have three children, Eduardo “Chito”, Rosa, and Fernando. When Sylvia had her first child, she decided to dedicate her life to being a fantastic and wonderful mother. Sylvia excelled at motherhood and was the foundation of her family, through and through. In 1985, Sylvia and her husband moved to Loving, NM United States where they built their home together.  She was a strong and resilient woman. She and her husband became US Citizens and worked for a better life. Sylvia was an excellent gift giver, helping family, never missed a special date, loved to cook, enjoyed the outdoors, working on her yard, visiting her brothers and sisters in Camargo and playing Bingo and conquian. Whether it was supporting Chapo and Rosy through sports or encouraging Fernando in school, she was our constant cheerleader and supporter. She raised her children to be independent and thoughtful adults. As a grandmother, Sylvia was known for her hearty laugh and kind heart. She was the heart and soul of our family, and she will be dearly missed.  

She was preceded in death by her parents Salvador and Maria De Jesus, her brothers; Jose, Luis, Salvador, Adan, Carlos, Jose, sisters; Paty, Concha, Rosa, Dolores.

She is survived by her brothers Jaime, Jesus and sisters; Eva and Alicia. Her husband Eduardo and her children Eduardo Jr. “chito” and Priscilla Hernandez, Rosa Hernandez and Gloria Minjares, Fernando Hernandez and wife Berenice Macias as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.  

Pallbearers will be Fernando Hernandez, Eduardo Hernandez, III, Gloria Minjares, Reymundo Hernandez, Frank Olivas, and Jaime Vasquez.

There will be a meal for family and friends after the burial at the Alejandro Ruiz Community Center, Loving, NM. Family and friends are welcome to join and bring a dish or dessert to share.  

The family would like to give a special thanks to all the staff at Hospitals of Providence East Campus in El Paso, TX who took care of Sylvia during her time there. Their love and care was greatly appreciated. Condolences may be expressed online at dentonwood.com
