Susana Lara Venegas

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Susana L. Venegas, who passed away on July 18, 2025 at the age of 84, in Carlsbad, New Mexico. She was the beloved wife of Remigio Venegas and a devoted mother to Abelina, Israel, Juan, and Ricardo Venegas. Susana was born September 8, 1940 in Carlsbad, NM to Elauterio and Petra (Lopez) Lara.

Susana Lara Venegas dedicated her life to her family as a stay-at-home wife and mother. She had a passion for cooking and enjoyed her Word Search puzzles. Susana provided childcare through CYFD for many years. She was a devoted woman of faith, whose love for God was evident in every aspect of her life. Susana was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Antonio Lara, Manuel Lara, Pablo Lara, and Santiago Lara; sisters: Susana Lara, Juanita Rocha, and Josefina Contreras; son, Juan A. Venegas.

Susana is survived by her husband, Remigio O. Venegas; daughter, Abelina Venegas and husband, Arturo Vasquez; sons: Israel Venegas and wife, Tammy Garcia, Ricardo Venegas and wife, Vanessa Ruiz-Venegas; 14 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; brothers: Victor Lara and Nino Lara, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Susana will be deeply missed by her loving family and friends.

Visitation will be 5:00 PM – 6:30 PM, Thursday, July 24, 2025 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. A vigil will follow at 6:30 PM at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10:00 AM, Friday, July 25, 2025 at San Jose Catholic Church with Fr. Juan Carlos Ramirez officiating. Interment will follow at Carlsbad Cemetery. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers will include Israel Venegas, Abelina Venegas, Ricardo Venegas, Tony Venegas, Jesus Venegas, Lucianno Venegas. Honorary Pallbearer is Remigio O. Venegas.
