Obituary Silvia YaYa Leyva Navarrette, 91, of Alvarado Street, Carlsbad, NM, passed away June 25, 2020 at her home. Visitation will be 4 PM 6 PM, Friday, July 3, 2020 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Visitation will be limited to 30 people in the chapel at a time. A graveside service is scheduled for 12:30 PM, Saturday, July 4, 2020 at Sunset Gardens Memorial Park with Deacon Manuel Chavez officiating. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. Navarrette was born February 20, 1929 in Loving, NM to Inocente A. and Ester R. (Loya) Leyva. She was raised in Carlsbad. She married Rudolfo Urives Navarrette August 25, 1956. In addition to Silvia, she was lovingly known by her friends and relatives as Silver or Aunt Yaya. Silvia was known for her loving heart and for her love of socializing with her neighbors and siblings, sharing a beverage on her front porch and watching the world go by. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Rudolfo U. Navarrette; sisters, Tavita Tommie Cerda and Angelita Chita Gonzales; brothers: Porky Leyva, Pete Leyva and Delbert Leyva; and her best friend, Sandy Rodriguez. Survivors are daughter, Mary Ester Tooter Navarrette; grandchildren: Christopher Escobedo and wife, Angela of Phoenix, AZ, and Joshua Escobedo and wife, Desirre of Albuquerque, NM; Anthony Escobedo, father of Chris and Josh; great grandchildren: Aero Slade Escobedo and Aeon Silver Escobedo of Phoenix, AZ; and Penelope Dean Escobedo of Albuquerque, NM. Sisters-in-Law Virginia Leyva of Carlsbad, NM and Helen Leyva of Albuquerque, NM; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her caregiver of five years, Edwina Rico. Belinda Lopez, Laurie Townsend, and nieces, Shirley Myers and Olga Farnam also had a very special place in her heart. Pallbearers are Joe Leyva, Danny Gonzales, Kendall Myers, Jeffrey Armendariz, David Navarrette, Jr., Anthony Leyva, and David Steward. Honorary Pallbearers are Anthony Escobedo, Joseph Calderon and all her nieces and nephews as well as all the children that she cared for during her lifetime.
