Secundino “Nino” Lara, 95, of W. Presidio Street, passed away October 6, 2026 at Lakeview Christian Home. Visitation will be 5:00 PM- 6:30 PM, Sunday, October 11, 2026 at Denton- Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are schedules for 10:00 AM, Monday, October 12, 2026 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Terry McKean, Tony Rodriguez, and Mike Veilleux officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad NM. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Nino was born May 21, 1931, in Carlsbad, New Mexico to Elauterio and Petra (Lopez) Lara. Nino went to work at a young age; therefore, only completing the 6th grade and was proud of the fact he received he’s GED later in life. He married Maria on April 20, 1952 here in Carlsbad. Nino worked for Duval for a number of years. He later worked at Lakeview Christian Home over 25 years. Nino was an accomplished cement finisher and cabinet maker. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan as well as a NY Yankees fan and never turned down the opportunity to watch his grandchildren play their various sports. Nino was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Maria C. Lara, son, Manuel Lara, grandson, David Castillo, great grandson, Timothy Mendoza, brothers, Elauterio Jr., Manuel, Pablo, Jimmy and Tony Lara, sisters, Susana Lara, Josefina Contreras, Juanita Rocha, and Susana Venegas.

Survivors are daughters, Cici Calderon and husband Manuel, Sally Aguilar and husband Julian, Irma Rodriguez and husband David; sons, Mario Lara and wife Rose, Abel Lara and wife Prissy; grandchildren, Jennifer Campos, Michael Hernandez, Julian Jerome Aguilar, Melanie Aguilar, Gwen Mendoza, Mario Lara Jr., Danielle Lara, Melissa Rodriguez, Megan Rodriguez, David Rodriguez III, Misti Rodriguez, Tiffany Ortiz, Justin Lara, Lindsey Lepetit and Austin Lanier; 31 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Victor Lara; nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Mario Lara Jr., Danielle Lara, Evan Campos, David Rodriguez III, Kaleo Sanchez Jr., Julian Aguilar Jr., Jakob Aguilar, and Justin Lara. Honorary pallbearers are Michael Hernandez, Martin Campos, Frank Arrendondo, Victor Lara, Victor Hernandez, Frank Huereque and all of his grandchildren and great- grandchildren.
