Scott was born February 21, 1966 in Orlando, Florida and moved to Carlsbad when he was a sophomore in high school, graduating from Carlsbad High School in 1984. He was a Cavemen football and baseball player. While attending his first year of college, Scott was involved in an accident that left him a paraplegic. This accident changed his career path, where he then pursued a degree in social work. He received a bachelors degree from NMSU in 1992. Scott worked as a social worker during his career in Carlsbad and Florida. While in Carlsbad, he also owned Hot Diggity Dog, a mobile hot dog stand that he placed in varies locations downtown. While in Florida, Scott became a heavy activist for ADA compliance working with Florida legislation. He was instrumental in implementing handicapped accessibility to Florida beaches and worked with other agencies for ADA compliance. Scott had a passion for classic hotrods and restoring them. He was the recipient of the A.J. Crawford Good Samaritan Award in 1997 for reuniting a missing young girl with her family. Scott had a kind heart and never met a stranger, which made him a very successful social worker. He challenged every boundary and never let his handicap tell him no. In fact, he never took no for an answer. Scott was determined, loyal, dedicated, and was loved by so many people. His infectious smile will be greatly missed. Scott was preceded in death by his parents: John Straub and Rose Marie Stresemann and stepfather, Dale Stresemann. Survivors are his daughters: Chelsea De la Cruz and husband, Vincent of El Paso, Texas and Hannah Straub of Cape Coral, Florida; granddaughter, Emma Rose De la Cruz; sisters: Johnna Hernandez and husband, Jessie of Lubbock, Texas, Sherry Day and husband, Daryl of Carlsbad, NM; nephews: Ryan Stephens, Parker Stephens and wife, Shelby, Garret Day and niece, Kalin Day.
