Roy “Jester” Spangler, 76, of N. Elm Street, Carlsbad, NM, passed away Saturday, September 11, 2021 at his home. Cremation will take place and a memorial service will be held Saturday, September 18, 2021 at 12 noon at Carlsbad Veteran’s Memorial Park with Phillip Carrell, Jr. officiating.
Roy was born March 25, 1945 in Tucson, Arizona to Virgil and Mary Eileen (Moss) Spangler and moved to Silver City as a young boy where he graduated. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam from 1963 to 1967. Roy was self-employed as a mechanic for many years. He owned and operated Roy’s Harley Service & Repair. Roy was an active member of The Brotherhood 74 for over 25 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Constance Winey.
Survivors are his wife, Kathy Porter of Carlsbad, NM; daughters: Pennie Prendergast and husband, Bede of New Zealand, Amy Spangler of Hobbs, NM; grandchildren: Bryson Baracart and wife, Monique, Wesley Baracart and wife, Grace, James Prendergast and Mitchell Prendergast, all of New Zealand, Decker McIlwee and Husen McIlwee and wife, Brittney; great-grandchildren: Lenix Baracart, Ellah Baracart and Braxton McIlwee; brother, Allen Fligg and his Brotherhood family.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bryson Baracart, Wesley Baracart, James Prendergast, Mitchell Prendergast, Decker McIlwee, Husen McIlwee and The Brotherhood 74.
