Roque "Rocky" Soltero

Roque “Rocky” Soltero, 87, of Evening Star Circle, Carlsbad, NM, passed away November 6, 2025 while in rehabilitation at Lakeview Christian Home.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial service is scheduled for 10:00 AM, Saturday, November 15, 2025 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Alex Castillo, Elder, officiating.

Roque was born September 2, 1938, in Santa Barbara, Chihuahua, Mexico to Roque and Cuca (Lopez) Soltero-Aguirre.

He married Alicia Palma February 11, 1961. In the earlier years, Roque was an auto mechanic but he went to work for the Forni Brothers, a John Deere dealership located at the South Y, in the mid 1960s which began his career as a farm equipment mechanic. Roque worked for several dealerships in the area and ultimately became self-employed until retiring. He truly loved his work and cherished his many loyal customers.

 Roque and Alicia were baptized together as Jehovah’s Witnesses in July of 1970. He was a member of the Spanish congregation since then and served as an Elder since 1973. Roque was an avid reader and enjoyed fishing with his boys. At one time, during his single days, he trained to fly small airplanes and really enjoyed flying them. Just shy of getting his license, he gave up the pursuit because of the desire to avoid the dangers associated with flying. But he never lost his fascination with the sound of small planes and would stop whatever he was doing to watch them flying overhead. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and all his brothers and sisters. 

Survivors are his wife, Alicia Palma Soltero; sons: Roque M. Soltero and wife, Jennifer, David Soltero and wife, Liz; grandchildren: Abel I. Soltero, Aaron M. Soltero, Lucas A. Soltero, and Tatiana V. Soltero; great-granddaughter, Orianna L. Soltero and numerous nieces and nephews.
