Ronald “Ron” G. Grigg, 79, of Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 21, 2026, surrounded by his family. Visitation will be 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Thursday, August 27, 2026 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 AM, Friday, August 28, 2026 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Carlsbad, NM.
A lifelong resident of Carlsbad, Ron was born and raised in the community he would always call home. Throughout his life, he remained deeply devoted to his family, his country, and his community.
Ron proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps for 24 years, retiring at the rank of Sergeant Major following a distinguished military career. His more than two decades of service reflected the dedication, discipline, and sense of duty that remained defining qualities throughout his life.
Following his retirement from the Marine Corps, Ron returned to Carlsbad, where he built a life centered on his family and the things he loved. An avid sportsman, Ron enjoyed hunting and fishing and treasured his time outdoors. He was also a classic-car enthusiast with a lifelong appreciation for automobiles.
Above all, Ron was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be remembered by those who knew and loved him for his devotion to his family, his service to his country, and the many memories he leaves behind.
Ron was preceded in death by his mother, Laura Helen Van Curen; his father, Charles Raphal Grigg; his brother, Marvin Alexander “M.A.” Barnes; his sister, Lavonia Powers; and his granddaughter, Tyler Jacks.
He is survived by his two children, Angela S. Jacks and her husband, Bruce, and Kelly M. Grigg, all of Carlsbad; his two grandchildren, Zachery A. Grigg and Daniel M. Jacks; his sisters, Pat Franz and Susan Grigg; and numerous nieces and nephews.
