Roger D. Simmons

Roger D. Simmons, 80, of Opal Street, Carlsbad, NM, passed away September 30, 2026 at his home. Visitation will be 5:00 PM- 7:00 PM, Monday, October 5, 2026 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 AM, Tuesday, October 6, 2026 at Carlsbad First Assembly with James McCormick officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, NM. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

 Roger was born September 14, 1946, in McAlester, Oklahoma to Robert and Wyoma (Mackey) Simmons. He graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1964. Roger worked at the WIPP site for 15 years. He later worked in the pipeline business ending his career as a pipeline inspector. Roger was affectionately known as "Uncle Honey". He enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews. He was a faithful fixture for every birthday party and family holiday. Roger loved horses. He never turned down the opportunity to go to the mountains. He enjoyed making others laugh. Whether thrilling kids of all ages with his Donald Duck voice, playing practical jokes, or teasing Debra mercilessly, a daily dose of laughter was always on the schedule, even when things got difficult. His family was his pride and joy. Roger married Debra March 26, 1994. He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife, Geraldine Simmons and granddaughter Tynette Skye Mason. Survivors are his wife, Debra Simmons; daughter, Tammi Mason and husband, Randy; sons: Roger "R.B." Simmons, Randy Simmons; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and several special nieces and nephews; sisters: Marilyn Gray and husband, Don and Nancy Cobb and husband, Jim. 

Pallbearers will be Brian Simmons, Jacob Ortega, William Bricker, Tyler Baughman, Dustin Newton, and James Cobb. Honorary pallbearers are Pat Wilson, Dafton Lambert, LaRue Lambert, Larry Kinder, Mark Wilkie, Micah Wilkie, Patton Baughman and Jeff Baughman.
