Rodolfo “Rudy” Estrada, Jr., 70, of Iowa Street, Carlsbad, NM, passed away Tuesday, August 25, 2026 at University Medical Center, Lubbock, Texas. Visitation will be 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM, Friday, September 4, 2026 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral Services are scheduled for 10:00 AM, Saturday, September 5, 2026 at Oasis Church with Pastor Gabe Rubio officiating. Interment will follow in Santa Catarina Cemetery, Carlsbad, NM. Carlsbad Veterans Honor Guard will perform military honors. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Rudy was born December 7, 1955 in Carlsbad, NM to Rodolfo and Teresa (Munoz) Estrada, Sr. He married Alice Chavez August 3, 1974. Rudy graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1975. He served in the Army National Guard. Rudy worked in the potash mines for 24 years. He worked for several years with the Carlsbad School System and then worked for the City of Carlsbad until retiring in 2018. Rudy loved kids and sports which led him to coaching almost every sport. He coached sports at P.R. Leyva, Carlsbad High School, Boys and Girls Club, and Little League. Rudy served as president of American League. He and Alice traveled countless miles watching their grandchildren play sports which he dearly loved. Rudy never met a stranger and always had an infectious smile to share with everyone. Faith was always important throughout his life and he made it a priority to put Christ first. He was preceded in death by his father, Rodolfo “Oko” Estrada, Sr.
Survivors are his wife, Alice Estrada; daughter, Jennifer Estrada; son, Rodolfo “Little Rudy” Estrada and Megan Duran; mother, Teresa Estrada; grandchildren: Kylee Giblin and husband, Caleb, Atler Hilbers, Justin Lowe, Cheno Estrada and Elonzo Estrada; great-granddaughter, Kinlee Giblin; sister, Sarah Doubrava and husband, Leo; brother, James Estrada and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Robert Chavez, Willie Mata, Cheno Estrada, John Martinez, Justin Lowe, Joshua Doubrava, Jeremy Jordan, and John Munoz.
