Obituary Robert S. Kearns, 91, passed away peacefully January 6, 2020, at his home in Carlsbad, NM. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 25, 2020 at First Presbyterian Church of Carlsbad. Cremation has taken place and interment will be at the First Presbyterian Church columbarium. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Bob was born to Thomas Theodore Kearns and Lois (Stevens) Kearns on July 15, 1928 in Denver, CO. He moved to Carlsbad with his family as a boy, graduating high school in 1946. Bob was drafted into the US Army Corp of Engineers and returned to Carlsbad after being honorably discharged. He received a Civil Engineering degree from Texas Tech University in 1962. He married Sherry (Fawcett) Peters on February 14, 1964 at the First Presbyterian Church. During Bobs long career in the potash industry, he worked for IMC and also for Southwest Potash (which became AMAX), eventually retiring from AMAX in 1985. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Gwendolyn Kearns. Survivors are his wife, Sherry Kearns; son, Jeff Kearns and husband Frank Tadeo of Phoenix, AZ; daughters, Betsy Bergstrom and husband George of Artesia, NM and Peggy Kearns of Midland, TX; grandchildren, Katie Yeager and Heather Bergstrom, both of Artesia, NM; great-grandchildren, Evelyn Yeager and McKenna Yeager; brother-in-law Willy Fawcett and wife Robin of Carlsbad, NM.
