Robert ‘Bob’ Scholl, 93, of Carlsbad, NM passed away Sunday, November 15, 2020. Memorial services will be 10:00 AM, Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at the Carlsbad Cemetery Veterans Committal Shelter. Military honors will be provided by the Carlsbad Veterans Honor Guard. Bob was the first veteran to be buried in the new Carlsbad Veterans Memorial Cemetery. He was born September 4, 1927 in Wadsworth, OH to George and Pearl Scholl. Bob served his country in the US Army at the end of WWII and later served in the US Navy Reserves. He graduated from Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois with a degree in education. Bob began teaching school in Ohio and moved to Carlsbad in the late 50’s where he taught at Sunset Elementary. He had a unique opportunity to teach English as second language in the South Pacific at Palau for 2 years. When he returned to Carlsbad, Bob taught at Eddy School until retiring with the Carlsbad school system. He coached little league for many years which he thoroughly enjoyed. Bob delighted in working and volunteering during retirement. He worked as a juvenile probation officer. Bob also hosted the noon community forum on KCCC Radio for 28 years. He had a love and interest in others and interviewed numerous local people on Channel 23. Bob will be dearly missed by numerous passed students and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter Bonnie Rhoades. Survivors are his wife, LaWanda Scholl of the home; daughters, Kathy Huffman of Odessa, Texas and Anne Mealey and husband Jay of Orlando, Florida; special friend and raised like a son, Clinton ‘Junior’ West and grandchildren, Shawn and Parker Mealey.
