Rey was born on February 20, 1934, in Presidio, Texas, to Jose and Petra Montejano. He spent most of his life in Carlsbad, where he built a life centered on faith, family, and hard work. A devoted member of San Jose Catholic Church, Rey faithfully served his parish and was a longtime member of the church choir. Throughout his career, Rey first worked as a janitor at the Eddy County Courthouse and later as a heavy equipment operator for The Eddy County. After more than 30 years of dedicated service, he retired. Known for his strong work ethic and craftsmanship, Rey was also a talented builder who took pride in working with his hands. Rey found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved riding horses, camping, hunting, maintaining his yard, and spending time outdoors. Above all, he cherished moments spent with his family and friends. He was a longtime member of the Caballero Club and dedicated many years to singing in the San Jose Church Choir, where his presence and fellowship touched many lives. Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Isabel Montejano; his daughter, Patsy Nagle; his daughter Sylvia Carrasco and husband, Mark Carrasco; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were a source of great pride and happiness in his life. Rey was preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Petra Montejano; his daughters, Olga Montejano, Rosalinda Fierro, and Elizabeth Holt Montejano; and his grandson, Kevin Nagle. Serving as pallbearers will be Saul Montejano, Mike Samuel Fierro, Mark Anthony Carrasco, Sonny Ray Montejano, Nicholas Ryan Holt Montejano, and Jose Nieto.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Jacob Medrano, Daysn Carrasco, Apolonio Navarrette
Rey's legacy of faith, dedication, kindness, and love for his family will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
