Reynaldo (Rey) Mendoza Leyva, 51, of Carlsbad, NM, passed away March 29, 2026. He was born November 17, 1974, in Van Horn, TX, to Maria Guadalupe M. Leyva and Rodolfo C. Leyva.

Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. A rosary and Mass of Christian Burial will be held 9:30 a.m. and 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at the San Jose Catholic Church. The burial will be scheduled 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 10, 2026, at the Carlsbad Cemetery. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Rey will be remembered and deeply missed for his warmth, sense of humor, his playfulness, jokester attitude, and the love he shared with family and friends through his kindness, thoughtfulness, and little gifts. Rey was the baby of the family and loved by his five siblings. Rey was a jack of all trades, a knowledgeable handyman anywhere from construction, welding, plumbing, etc.… His hobbies included painting, exercising, and fixing things. He enjoyed family time and hanging with friends.

Rey is survived by his daughter, Sonja Duran, and her partner Sean Campbell; his partner Laura Galindo; his step children: Monica Ramoz Lucero, and Eric Galindo; his grandchildren: Andrew Ramoz, Jazlyn Munoz, and Eric Galindo, Jr.; his siblings: Rodolfo and wife, Dora Leyva, Anna and husband, Javier Jimenez, Robert and wife, Sara Leyva, Angie Leyva-Rodriquez, and Rich Leyva, as well as his extended family.

He was preceded in death by his father, Rodolfo C. Leyva, his mother, Maria Guadalupe M. Leyva, and his grandparents: Isidoro and Matiana Mendoza, and Antonio and Maria Chavarria Leyva.

Pallbearers will be Rene Gonzalez, II, Jordan Rodriquez, Harvey Jimenez, Jr., Orlando Jimenez, Mike Payanes, Carlos Carrasco, Sr., Eric Galindo, Eric Galindo, Jr., and Andrew Ramoz.

As we say goodbye to Rey Mendoza Leyva, we honor the memories he leaves behind and the love, laughter, and resilience that will continue to inspire those who knew him. May his soul rest in peace, and may his family and friends find comfort in the cherished moments shared together. Rey will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
