It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Randy Norrid, of Carlsbad, New Mexico, on October 25, 2025.
Randy was born and raised in Carlsbad, where he became known as the most kind-hearted person you ever met — a rare mix of toughness, humor, and generosity that only he could pull off. He was loyal to his family and friends, loved the open country, and found peace working with his cows, chickens, and horses. A true outdoorsman and a proud wildland firefighter, Randy was happiest with dirt on his boots, his faithful dog Outlaw by his side, and a good story to tell.
He lived by his favorite saying, “If you’re going to be stupid, you better be tough,” — words that perfectly captured his grit, humor, and no-nonsense outlook on life.
Randy was preceded in death by his father Sherwood “Woody” Norrid, his mother Jackie Barnhill, his stepmother Venie Lou Norrid, and his sister Karen Rainwater.
He is survived by the love of his life, Lupe Melendrez; his sister, Deborah Dryer; daughters: Brandy Norrid and significant other Charlie, Amber Norrid, and Cassandra Norrid; son, Russell Henslee and significant other Lauren; grandson, Colton and significant other Dajiah, and their son Colt; grandsons: Phoenix, Brayden, Anthony, Ryder, Ace, and Jack; and granddaughters Riley, Summer, Piper, and Josie. He also leaves behind his niece Shay Chapman and husband Tony, and his great-nieces Kaiya, Ava, and Emma, all of whom loved him dearly.
Randy will be remembered for his big heart, sharp wit, and the way he showed up for those he cared about — whether that meant lending a hand, fixing something that broke, or just making you laugh when you needed it most.
A celebration of life will be held 10:00 AM, Saturday, November 1, 2025 at Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, NM. In honor of Randy’s memory and the stories he left behind.
Pallbearers will be Colton Chadwick, Phoenix Lucas, Russell Henslee, Veronica Martinez, Bill Eaton, Tony Chapman.
The family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to our extended family at TLC Home Health and Hospice, especially Terry, for all the love and support you have given us during this time.
