Pete T. Marquez, 63, of W. Presidio Street, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away January 3, 2024 at his home.  Visitation will be 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM, Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel followed by a vigil at 6:00 PM.  Liturgy Outside the Mass is scheduled for 10:00 AM, Thursday, January 11, 2024 at San Jose Catholic Church.  Interment will follow in Carlsbad Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Carlsbad, NM.  Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Pete was born August 30, 1960 in Roswell, New Mexico to Lino and Francisca (Torres) Cano.  He graduated from Dexter High School in 1979.  Pete served his country in the U.S. Air Force four years and then served in the Army National Guard sixteen years.  He began work at the Eddy County Detention Center and later worked as a deputy with Eddy County Sheriff Department where he retired after 20 years of service.  Through the years with law enforcement, he worked the DWI trash pickup program and as a school resource officer.  After retiring, he transported veterans to doctors appointments.  Pete loved spending time with his grandchildren who were the joy of his life and he was particularly proud of his son, Andrew, in his accomplishments.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Moises Marquez; sisters: Celia Villa and Rita Martinez.

Survivors are his spouse, Priscilla Corona; son, Andrew S. Marquez and wife, Jana; grandchildren: Emery Marquez, Aiden Marquez and Eliyannah Marquez; brothers: Esequiel Marquez and wife, Emma, Roy Marquez and wife, Lilly, Estevan Marquez and wife, Denyce; sisters: Lydia Benavidez and husband, Blas, Josie Madrid and husband, Sam, Juanita Tuttle and husband, Brigham, Irma Gamboa and husband, Abraham, and Manuela Garcia.

Pallbearers will be Andrew S. Marquez, Leon Marquez, Rudy Marquez, Armando Corona, Sr., Robert Corona and Michael Corona.  Honorary pallbearers are Emery Marquez, Aiden Marquez and Eliyannah Marquez.
