Octavio "Toby" Murillo

Octavio “Toby” Murillo, 65, of E. Derrick Road, Carlsbad, NM, passed away June 25, 2025 at his home. Visitation will be 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM, Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Rosary is scheduled for 10:30 AM, Thursday, July 3, 2025 at San Jose Catholic Church followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM with Fr. Juan Carlos Ramirez officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, NM.

Toby was born November 16, 1959 in Carlsbad, NM to Thomas and Carlota (Madrid) Murillo. He graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1977. Toby worked for Carlsbad Municipal Schools 25 years before retiring. He worked with his brothers in their painting business and remodeling houses. Toby met Mary Lou in 2003 and they married in 2007. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. Toby was always playing jokes on everyone. He enjoyed dancing, gambling, cook outs, and spending time with his family. Toby was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Maria Portillo and Jessie Navarrette; brother, Richard Murillo.

Survivors are his wife, Mary Lou Murillo; son, Lionel Cerna; daughters: Joselyn Orona and husband, Miguel, Brittany Ragsdale; grandchildren: Zoey Orona, Maximus Orona, Angelee Orona, Miguel Orona, Jr., Angelo Cerna, Adrian Cerna, Melani Rodriguez, Jaclynn Ragsdale, Ivan Martinez, Andreanna Martinez; great-grandchildren: Nola Rai and Milleiana; siblings: Aurelio Murillo and wife, Olivia, Rogelio Murillo and wife, Gloria, Oscar Murillo and wife, Irma, Toribio Murillo, Teresa Murillo, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are Lionel Cerna, Miguel Orona, Mark Sonora, Isaiah Sonora, Turbo Murillo, Cholo Murillo, and Robert Castillo. Honorary pallbearers are Aurelio Murillo, Rogelio Murillo, Oscar Murillo, and Toribio Murillo.
