Nicolas "Nick" Armendarez

Nicolas "Nick" Armendarez, 81, of Hill Street, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at his home. Visitation will be 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Thursday, May 23, 2024 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, May 24, 2024 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel.  Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, NM. Carlsbad Veterans Honor Guard will provide military honors.

Nick was born September 16, 1942 in Marfa, Texas, to Jose and Esperanza (Deanda) Armendarez.  He served in the Army National Guard from 1960 to 1966.  Nick married Yvonne Navarrette August 20, 1968 in Loving, NM.  His work ethic was unparallel, often working long hours to ensure the comfort and security of his family whom he loved deeply.  Nickey’s commitment to his family extended beyond providing; he was actively involved in their lives whether coaching or umpiring little league or teaching his children the value of hard work and perseverance.  His wife, Yvonne, was his partner in every sense, supporting each other through life’s ups and downs.  Nickey’s sense of humor and easy-going nature made him a favorite in the community.  He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Juana Calderon, Zenaida Armendarez; brothers: Chon, Victor, Jose Jr., and Jesus Armendarez.

Survivors are his wife, Yvonne Armendarez; children: Yvette Laughlin and husband, Scott, Veronica “Bubbles” Armendarez and husband, Henry, Nick Armendarez and Lisa Grando, Monica Vasquez and husband, Ralph, and Richard Armendarez and wife, Kymberly; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; sisters: Maria “Lalu” Dobson and husband, George, Gloria Armendarez, Natie Saiz and Nick, Cristy Castillo, sister in-law Rosemary Armendarez and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to thank Nickey’s niece, Teresa Williams, who cared for him with much compassion and kindness.  Thank you to Enhabit for the excellent care provided.
