Matias Morán Rios

Matias Morán Rios, 85, of Primrose Street Carlsbad, New Mexico passed away on Tuesday, April 6, 2021, at home surrounded by his family. Matias was born on February 24, 1936, in Santa Catalina de Siena, Durango, Mexico to Zeferino and Catalina Morán.

Visitation is scheduled from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Monday, April 12, 2021, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel. Then the family will have private services at San Jose Catholic Church with Fr. Juan Carlos Ramirez officiating. Interment will take place at Carlsbad Cemetery in Carlsbad, NM. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Matias grew up in Mexico and married the love of his life, Velia Martinez, in 1955. They then started their family having six beautiful children. Matias always loved music and was well versed in playing the violin. He enjoyed gardening and going to the San Jose Senior Center. He made so many wonderful friends there. But most of all he loved his family. He spent countless times creating special memories with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Matias will be dearly missed and never forgotten.

Matias was preceded in death by his father, Zeferino Morán; mother, Catalina Morán; and two sisters: Elvira Morán and Gregoria Morán.

Matias is survived by his loving wife, Velia Morán of Carlsbad, NM; daughter, Cecilia Meraz of Carlsbad, NM; son, Gerardo Morán and wife, Yolanda of Carlsbad, NM; daughter, Elvira Morán Martinez and husband, Esteban of Mexico; daughter, Carmen Morán of Mexico; son, Javier Morán and wife, Nadia of Mexico; daughter, Oralia Morán Lozano and husband, Martin of Mexico; sixteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; four siblings: Leonor Morán, Socorro Morán, Ignacia Morán and Jose Morán; and numerous nieces and nephews.
