Mary Angelina Bergamo McIlwee, 101, of Westridge Road, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away August 5, 2009 at Landsun Health Services. Visitation will be 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Thursday, August 6, 2009 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Vigil Services are scheduled for Thursday, August 6, 2009, 7:00 PM at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Friday, August 7, 2009, 10:00 AM, at St. Edward Catholic Church, 201 North Guadalupe Street, with Father Cyprian Uline, OFM, Conv. officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Mary Angelina Bergamo McIlwee was born November 9, 1907 in Rugby, Colorado to Daniel and Celestina (Stringari) Bergamo. She was raised in Rugby, Colorado where she worked with her father in the company store. She and William McIlwee were married December 25, 1927 in Rugby, Colorado and moved to Carlsbad in 1937. William passed away in 1955 in a mine bus accident in Carlsbad. Mary was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary, The Altar Society and The Catholic Daughters of The Americas. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William; daughters: Eileen Parker and Margaret Leach; one grandchild and four brothers. She is survived by two sons: William McIlwee, II and wife, Linda and Hugh McIlwee and wife, Nancy both of Carlsbad, NM; eight grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; four great-great-granchildren and one sister, Betty Grandi and husband, Harold of Carlsbad, NM Pallbearers will be Cecil Henderson, Cole Henderson, Jonathan McIlwee, Gary Davis, Paul Mitchell, Steve Rennie, Melvin Kelley and Russel Leach. Honorary Pallbearers are all her grandchildren and Harold Grandi. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Edward Catholic School, 805 Walter Street, Carlsbad, NM 88220.
