Maria "Mary" E. Camarena

Maria E. Camarena, 69, of Carlsbad, NM, passed away Monday August 14, 2023, at home surrounded by her family that loved her dearly. Maria was born in March 2, 1954, in Corpus Christie, Texas to Honorio and Eusebio Lopez.

Mary was a very strong and fiercely loving woman. At an early adult age, she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Even though her battle with MS was long and hard, she remained steadfast and strong in her faith in God. She not only prayed for her loved ones constantly, but showed tremendous grace and mercy drawing from her faith and love in Jesus. She was the cornerstone of her family and friends. There is nothing more Mary loved in life than her children and grandchildren, her ex-husband and best friend Leo, and her earthly guardian angel Melissa. Mary’s love for her family, her strength and humility, and her humbleness will always be remembered and will be carried on in the hearts of those she touched.

Mary was preceded in death by her father Honorio Lopez, brothers Ricardo and Gilbert Lopez, and sister Marillita Lopez.

Mary is survived by her best friend, Leo Camarena and wife Melissa; daughters Miranda Sullivan and husband Dustin of Clovis; Veronica DiCamillo and husband Brandon of Carlsbad; son Charlie Camarena and wife Carolyn of Wasilla, AK; and son of love Isaac Camarena of Carlsbad. She is survived by her grand children Mary, Cody, Matthew, and Alyssa DiCamillo and Jonethan Camarena, all of Carlsbad.

She is also survived by her mother, Eusubia Lopez of Plainview; two brothers Daniel Lopez & wife Maggie of Louisiana; Willie Lopez and wife Louisa of Plainview; sisters Hilda Gonzales and husband Gerald and Nina Flores and husband Jerry, all of Plainview.

The family would like to thank the staff of Carlsbad Medical Center,  Lakeview Home Health,  and Lakeview Hospice for their care and love.

Cremation has taken place, and there will be time to visit with the family from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM Thursday, August 17, 2023, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 PM Thursday, August 17, 2023, at St. Edward Catholic Church with Fr. Hruday Kumar Pasala officiating.
