Lucy was born on May 24, 1956 in Carlsbad, NM to Guadalupe (Guiterrez) and Lauro Escareño. She attended Carlsbad schools were she graduated from Carlsbad High School.

My sister and I thought we were her greatest joy that is until we gave her grandchildren. They were truly her greatest joy. When I asked them for a memory that they wanted to share, this is what was sent:

Lucia: Every second I got with my Nani was a happy memory

Maelene: When I asked her to make me rice and she said why don’t you make it and I said because I don’t know how and she said that’s the last time you gonna say that. She went on and taught me how to make rice.

Adrian: When she would pick me up from Alta Vista and was bumping to SPM or Lil Rob and watch movies.

Emily: When she would help me skip school as long as we got cinnamon rolls from Pecos River Café

Jackie: When we would make quesadillas with sugar in the middle of the night and grandma would tell me lets make milkshakes and she would cover the blender with a towel and tell me that it makes it quieter … lol

If you ever had the privilege to have some of her biscochos then you know that she had the best recipe and of course she took it with her. She was a great baker. She also had this recipe for a Carrot cake that was out of this world.

Lucy held a special place for animals. She could be seen pushing Precious (her pet poodle) in a pet stroller. Her most frequented places were the Allsup’s on Mermod and Ross.

Lucy is proceeded in death by her parents, Lauro and Guadalupe Escareño; sisters: Barbara Escareño and Patsy Lara and her beloved pet Georgie.

She is survived by her daughters: Sonya Escareño-Soto and husband, Pilo, Jisa Gomez-Fox and husband, Michael; grandchildren: Lucia Escareño, Maelene Soto, Emily Soto and fiancé, Jacob Juarez, Kaylee Soto, Adrian Martinez and wife, Leslye; great-grandchildren: Jackie Campos and Lucian Juarez; siblings: Joann Lara, Matilda Quintela, Lupe Escareño, John Escareño, Dennis Escareño, Maryann Sosa, Lisa Escareño, Sam Escareño.
