Lucia "Lucy" Lopez

Lucia “Lucy” Lopez, 71, of Carlsbad, NM, passed away Sunday, July 12, 2026, at her home.

Visitation will be 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM, Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home followed by a Vigil at 6:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 11:00 AM, Thursday, July 16, 2026, at San Jose Catholic Church with Fr. Juan Carlos Ramirez officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, NM. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Lucy was born on September 27, 1954, in Loving, NM to Jim and Maggie (Acosta) Lopez. She grew up on the family farm in Malaga and graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1973. Lucy worked as a massage therapist for over 20 years. She married Leo Gonzalez on January 20, 2020. Lucy enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of San Jose Catholic Church and a charter member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court St. Maurus #2601. Lucy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leo Gonzalez; siblings: Jim Lopez, Jr., Sonny Lopez, Thelma Calderon, and Herman Lopez.

Survivors are her son, Lupe Carrasco and wife, Anna; daughter, Veronica Hernandez and husband, Eli; grandchildren: Lupito Carrasco, Jr., Karis Hernandez, and Arianna Carrasco; sister, Sally Vasquez; brothers: Henry Lopez and wife, Selina, David Lopez; brother-in-law, Ben Calderon; aunt, Irene Campos, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Lupito Carrasco, Jr., Benny Calderon, Steven Calderon, Brandon Parraz, James Daniel Lopez, and Eli Hernandez. Honorary pallbearer is Melannie Gonzalez.
