Leopoldo S. "Leo" Gonzalez

Leopoldo S. “Leo” Gonzalez, 84, passed away Friday, January 23, 2026 at his home in Carlsbad, NM.

Visitation will be from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Wednesday, January 28, 2026 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel. A rosary will be recited at 10:30 AM, Thursday, January 29, 2026 at San Jose Catholic Church followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM, with Fr. Juan Carlos Ramirez officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico.

Leo was born August 31, 1941, to Merced and Mercedes (Salcido) Gonzalez in Camargo, Chihuahua, Mexico. He was very proud of the fact that he became a U.S. citizen in 2006. Leo played baseball in Mexico and was an avid Dodgers and 49ers fan. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, singing and spending time with all his family. Leo especially loved attending the many sporting events of his grandchildren. He married Lucy Lopez in 2020.

Leo was preceded in death by his parents; son, Raul Gonzalez; grandson, Lucas Gonzalez; sisters: Luz Elena and Elvira Gonzalez.

He is survived by his wife, Lucy Gonzalez; sons: Jaime Gonzalez and wife, Veronica, Luis Gonzalez and wife, Maria, Leo Gonzalez, Jr. and wife, Luci, David Gonzalez and wife, Sonia; stepchildren: Gloria Ellis and husband, Tony, Sylvia Venegas, Velma Venegas, Lupe Carrasco and wife, Anna, and Veronica Hernandez and husband, Eli; 22 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; 2 great-greatgrandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Lupe Carrasco, Leo Gonzalez III, Isaac Gonzalez, David Gonzalez, Jr., Luis Gonzalez, Jr., and Michael Ellis. Honorary pallbearers are Javier Bejarano and Jaime Gonzalez, Jr.
