Larry Gene “Pappy” Barnes, 72, passed away August 9, 2021 in Albuquerque, NM. He was born on September 24, 1948, in Carlsbad, NM to Louie and Cassie Barnes.

A graveside service is scheduled for 10:30 AM, Monday, August 16, 2021 at Queen Cemetery with Pastor Jimmy Tarvin officiating.

Gene or "Pappy" as all of his family and friends called him was a very talented craftsman as he spent many years owning and operating his own construction company "Gene Barnes Construction ". He was a very hard worker where his career also consisted of him being a truck driver. He loved his family where he spent countless hours hunting, camping and fishing with them of which they enjoyed tremendously. Pappy loved to sing with his twin brother Dean in their younger years. He was very entertaining as he always had people laughing with his great sense of humor and joking personality. He had a very loving caring heart, would do anything to help others, and will truly be missed by the many people he befriended and loved.

He was preceded in death by his parents Louie Gilbert Barnes and Cassie Jewel Stanley Barnes of Carlsbad, NM, brother Mike Barnes of Carlsbad, sister Janice Shefka of Garland, TX, brother Bud Barnes of Carlsbad, grandchildren Brandon Bounds of Carlsbad, Casey Hedrick of Carlsbad, Laura Brazeal of Carlsbad, and great granddaughter Jade Holman of Carlsbad, NM.

Survivors are children: Sheila Rodriguez and husband, Raul; Karen Williams, Lisa Hedrick, Larry Shane Barnes and Tracy Shannon Barnes and brother: Dean Barnes and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com
