Kenni Lynn Barnett went home to be with Jesus on September 29, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Carlsbad on April 15, 1953 to Jimmy Ray Janes and Jan Dean Janes. Kenni married Lanny Barnett, the love of her life, on November 30, 1968. They were blessed with four beautiful daughters, with their first-born daughter, Paula Jan Barnett, passing from this life on October 25, 1976. Also preceding Kenni in death were her parents-Jan Dean Groves and Jimmy Janes; mother-in-law Lina Barnett and father-in-law Wayne Barnett, sister-in-law Betty Beck, brother-in-law Jimmy C. Barnett, brother-in-law Jimmie Pope; nephew Greg Barnett and niece Jessica Rae Janes.
Kenni Lynn and Lanny were both baptized at Fox and Lake Church of Christ, where they attended for 40 years. They currently are members of Sunset Church of Christ. Kenni Lynn’s faith and love for Jesus was a high priority in her life. She did an incredible job daily displaying the fruits of the spirit to bless everyone in her life. Selflessness and humility were a few of her greatest qualities. She leaves a legacy of love and faithfulness behind that is evident in the lives of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Kenni Lynn was an example of faithfulness to her entire family and friends.
Kenni Lynn always found a way to make you feel special and loved. She loved with all her heart and always made sure to check in on you and do anything she could for you. She never forgot a birthday, blessing those she loved with cards, gifts or a thoughtful call.
Kenni Lynn was a talented artist, seamstress and crafter. She poured her heart into her works of art and creating volumes of scrapbooks (a labor of love) of her family and friends. She made many things to show her love for them. Kenni Lynn taught art classes at Beason’s Furniture Store, teaching others to make dip and drape dolls, macrame and pastel paintings. She loved celebrating the holidays and people. Birthday parties for her girls were over the top with the best games, decorations and cakes.
Kenni Lynn owned Balloons-A-Poppin’ in the 80’s and 90’s and could be seen, and heard, in local restaurants, surprising people with balloon bouquets as she sang and greeted them dressed like various characters such as ‘The Old Lady’ and ‘Dolly Beg Ur Pardon’. Alongside her family, she decorated for numerous high school reunions, weddings and various events.
Kenni Lynn retired from Lakeview Christian Home where she was the Activities Director for 20 years. She loved her residents and they loved her. She brought much joy to their lives. While working at Lakeview, Kenni Lynn developed strong friendships with some very special people. Among them are B.J. Carver, Judy Harris, Lisa Schierholt and Belinda Lee.
Kenni Lynn had a special bond with her lifelong friends Debbie Gregg and LaQuita Bonds. They crafted together, raised their children together and supported each other through good times and bad. Kim, Allison, Robbie, Kathie and Dustin were loved and cherished as if they were her own.
Kenni Lynn is survived by a large, close-knit family including her loving husband, Lanny Barnett; children-Keri Lynn Barnett Brown and husband Phillip Paul Brown; Krissi Lee Barnett Samuels and husband Steven Samuels; and youngest daughter Kayla LeAnn Barnett, Kathie Rowland and husband Keith; Grandchildren-Brittany Brown, Blake Walden, Kloe Samuels, Kadence Samuels and Braya Samuels; Great-grandchildren-Maddox Collins, Paxtin Collins and Jaxxon Collins, all of whom she adored. Kenni Lynn’s siblings are Jimmy Janes and wife Deborah, and Mary Sillas and husband Richard. Nieces and nephews are Jamie Underwood and husband Glenn; Becky Beard and husband Matthew; Jed Janes and wife Breonna; and John Janes. Great nieces and nephews-Sydney Brashear, Morgan Beard, Austin Beard, Zac Pope and Riley Pope. Lifelong friends-Brenda Counts, Lisa Getz, Regina Vail, Jean Ann Gordon and Thenia Flinko. Aunt-Gay Lynn Tivis and numerous cousins.
We would like to thank Dr. Athigaman, Sara Jones, CMC outpatient nurses and staff, Ashley Childs and Lakeview Hospice staff-Tina, Fred, Alana, Myra and Roberta, for their compassionate care shown to Kenni Lynn and the family.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2:00 PM, Friday, October 3, 2025 at Sunset Church of Christ with Del Gifford officiating. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
