Keith Counts

Keith Counts, 41, of E. Cherry Lane, Carlsbad, NM, passed away August 25, 2021 at his home. Cremation will take place and a memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at First United Methodist Church.

Keith was born October 16, 1979 in Carlsbad, NM to Brenda (Eggleston) and Randall Lee Counts, Sr. He graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1998. Keith attended Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, NM and Okmulgee Tech in Tulsa, OK. He returned to Carlsbad, NM and began working in the oilfield industry as an independent contractor prior to being hired on by DCP Midstream. Keith married Alison Stroud on November 30, 2002 and theirs was a marriage made in heaven. They were truly best friends and the parents of two incredible children, Kinley and Kooper. Keith founded Desert Compression, LLC in 2012, which serves the entire Permian Basin. His wife, Alison, joined him in the business shortly afterwards. In 2017, Keith’s father, Randy, came to work for the business. Keith felt so blessed to be able to work so closely with him every day. Desert Compression is highly respected throughout the Permian Basin. Keith always viewed his employees as family and was very proud of what they accomplished together.

Keith spent many years hunting and he harvested numerous exceptional big game trophies. He was also an exceptionally skilled fisherman and fished numerous bass tournaments with friends, his wife and his son Kooper. Among his most treasured attributes was his love for his family. He was a one-of-a kind husband and father. Keith’s children and wife each considered him their best friend. He taught his children by example through patience and with deep love and wisdom. Together with immeasurable other things, he taught his daughter to shoot a compound bow, to think critically, build furniture and was her close confidant. Keith taught his son to shoot, hunt and fish and so many more skills. Together, they bass fished as a team in tournaments across the county and placed high in competitions. Keith couldn’t have been more proud of Kooper and Kinley and beamed when he spoke of them. Keith was a loving and loyal son, husband, father, brother, and friend. He loved entertaining, smoking brisket, cooking steaks, and lake-caught fish for dozens of close friends. When his daughter was accepted into LSU, his heart swelled with pride and he prepared an authentic Louisiana crawfish boil for friends and family.
Keith was a giver, not a taker. The respect that he earned through his personality, generosity and kindness was unsurpassed. Keith lived a life without regret and always had a positive attitude. His calming nature was appreciated in all situations. Keith’s memory will live on with family, friends, employees, and everyone that he encountered.
Keith is survived by his wife, Alison Counts; daughter, Kinley Brook Counts; son, Kooper Counts; parents, Randy and Brenda Counts; sisters, Heather Ingram and husband, Chad, Jackie Dowdy and husband, Ty; nieces, Makaylee Harvey and Avery Dowdy; nephews: Mason Harvey, Mason Ingram and Zachery Ingram; aunts, Jean Mobley and husband, Larry, Laura Canyon, Janice Bell and Mary Beth Woods; uncles, Ricky Eggleston; father-in-law, Cliff Stroud and wife, Wren; mother-in-law, Judi Blundell and husband, Bob; brother-in-law, John Stroud and wife, Melissa and son Christian; sister-in-law, Lia Burns and husband, Scott and sons Alex and Austin; brother-in-law, Frank Barnett and wife, Angie and daughter Haley; lifelong friend, Herman Lopez and girlfriend Jan and numerous cousins, extended family and friends.
