Kay Roper, 69, of Tower Drive, Carlsbad, NM, passed away Friday, May 10, 2024 at Covenant Medical Center, Lubbock, Texas. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 AM, Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at Carlsbad First Assembly with Pastor Lance Redman officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, NM. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Kay was born August 6, 1954 in Carlsbad, NM, to Howard and Bernice (Janway) Hearn. She married Terry Roper March 31, 1972 and graduated from Carlsbad High School in May. Kay worked at Roper’s Drapery a number of years. She later worked for Hamilton Roofing and most recently Browning Garage all of which she thoroughly enjoyed. She loved her husband and children and always went above and beyond to care for them. Kay had many hobbies and enjoyed spending time with her dear friends. Kay never missed the opportunity to attend her grandkids’ activities or spend time with them. She will be missed for her helpful nature by so many.

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Ryan Vasquez; brother, Kent Hearn and infant sister.

Survivors are her husband, Terry “T.R.” Roper; daughters, Shannon Roper and Robert Hernandez, Teresa Messer and husband, Tray, Angie Vasquez and husband, Jimmy; grandchildren: Rocky Beal, Trystan Messer, Randy Beal, Chanlee Barney, Traelyn Aldrich, Jostyn Vasquez and Rayen Bushman; great-grandchildren: Raylinn, Reice, Reilee, Rayf, Rhyder, Rankyn, Rynlee, Ramsi, Trayce and Brylee, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Pallbearers will be Tray Messer, Jimmy Vasquez, Robert Hernandez, Rodney Smith, Rocky Beal, Randy Beal, Rayen Bushman and Drew Lowe.
