Judith Elaine Jones, 83, passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at Good Life Assisted Living in Carlsbad, NM. Cremation has taken place, and a graveside service is scheduled for 1:00 PM, Saturday, June 8, 2024, at the Carlsbad Cemetery in Carlsbad, NM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be given to a charity of the donor’s choice.  

Judy was born July 18, 1940, in Osage, Iowa to Earl and Anita Nelson.  After graduating from high school in Mason City, Iowa, she attended Arizona State University and Eastern New Mexico University.  She graduated from ENMU in 1966 with a degree in business. On December 30, 1961, Judy married Fred H. Jones at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Albuquerque, NM. She was employed as a legal secretary for several firms in Albuquerque before being named Court Administrator to the U.S. Magistrate, Tenth District Court in Albuquerque.  Judy later was employed as Executive Secretary to the Vice President of Legal, Sandia National Laboratory. After retiring, Fred and Judy moved to Eagle Nest where they established and operated Cottonwood Antiques as well as vacation rentals. They relocated to Carlsbad, NM several years ago. Judy was a member of First Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fred H. Jones; sister, Deborah Hartley and sister-in-law, Judith Lee Nelson.

Judy is survived by her brother, Kenneth Nelson of Carlsbad, NM; sister, Jeanne Cooley of Columbus, Ohio; niece, Jennifer Burk of Las Cruces, NM; nephew, Jeffrey Nelson of Austin, TX, great nieces, Shannon Burk and Amarie Burk; great nephews, Jacob Burk and Cody Burk; and seven foster children.
