Josefina Medrano Lujan

Josefina (Josie) Medrano Lujan, of Algerita Street, Carlsbad, NM, peacefully gained her wings to be with the Lord on Monday, January 15, 2024. Visitation will be 4 PM - 7 PM, January 24, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited at 10:30 AM, Thursday, January 25th followed by Mass of Christian Burial at San Jose Catholic Church with Fr. Juan Carlos Ramirez officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Josie was born July 25, 1935, to Rafael and Trinidad in Carlsbad, New Mexico. She grew up and graduated in Carlsbad (Otis, NM) Josie met the love of her life, Antonio (Tony) Lujan in 1958, they were married 63 years, and had four children. Josie dedicated her life to education, serving faithfully at Carlsbad Municipal School District for 36 years until her retirement. A woman deeply rooted in faith, she emanated the values of her family. Josie joyfully shared her spiritual beliefs with all she encountered and imparted her love for teaching to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, ensuring they were well-prepared for the journey of learning and supported them along the way. Tony and Josie raised their children and grandchildren in San Jose Catholic Church. Josie loved to be around her family especially all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She cherished the Sunday outings for ice cream with her great-granddaughter, Amaris Veloz—a special tradition that held immense meaning for her. Visiting her at noon proved to be an inopportune time because she was engrossed in her beloved soap opera, "The Bold and the Beautiful." Her dear friend Billie Lynn introduced her to the show, which she loved and she ensured not to miss. She also cherished sharing her passion for cooking traditional family meals with her granddaughters and baking sweet treats with her great-granddaughter Sadie McKinley. Josie always went out of her way to bake everyone her special Pineapple upside-down and German Chocolate cakes for special occasions, a memory her family says they will never forget. She will be greatly missed and never forgotten. Josie was preceded in death by parents, Rafael and Trinidad Medrano; husband, Antonio "Tony" Lujan; sister, Cecilia "Shela" Medrano Lara and great-grandson, Justin Lujan. She is survived by her children: Linda L. Olivas and husband, Arturo; sons: Ricky and wife, Sylvia Lujan, Jerry Lujan, and LeeRoy and wife, Delilah Lujan; brother: Ralph Medrano, Jr. and wife Cecilia; and sister-in-law: Lilia Lujan. She had 10 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers are her grandsons: Mark Lujan, Ricky Lujan, Jr., Lonnie Olivas, Bryan Lujan, Jakob Lujan, Arturo Olivas, Jr. Honorary pallbearers her granddaughters: Annette Olivas, Jennah McKinley, Ashlyn Lujan, and Arlene Ortega.
