Jonah Alexander Mathews

Jonah Alexander Mathews was born on January 19, 2001, in Carlsbad, New Mexico, to Melissa Olguin and Darryl Mathews.

He was best known for his athleticism on softball fields as far away as Florida, representing New Mexico. However, those closest to him would sooner tell you about his heart and his willingness to help others in their time of need. He was always there to lend a hand, an ear, or a laugh when it was needed most.

Though his life was brief, his love, joy, and friendship impacted many and will leave a lasting impression on all who had the opportunity to know and love him.

Jonah was preceded in death by his mother, Melissa Olguin; his niece, Alyanna Gonzalez; his grandfather, Juan Elias Olguin; his uncle, Juan Eduardo Olguin; and his cousin, Jarrod Olguin.

He is forever loved and missed by his sister, Anissa Gonzalez of Loving, New Mexico, along with her husband, Dakota, and daughters, Aurora and Saylor; his sister, Kaylah Robledo of Carlsbad, New Mexico; his brother, Jordan Chavez of Carlsbad, New Mexico, along with his wife, Michelle, and son, Jeremiah; his brother, Julius Mathews of Carlsbad, New Mexico; his grandmother, Connie Olguin of Las Cruces, New Mexico; his father, Darryl Mathews of Carlsbad, New Mexico; and numerous half-siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

A visitation will take place from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Monday, June 8, 2026 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, June 9, 2026 at 10Ten Church (Walter Gerrells Performing Arts Center) with Braden Ryan officiating.
