John W. Coleman

John W. Coleman, 97, of Carrollton, TX, passed away Sunday, August 2, 2026 at home. Visitation will be from 5-7pm, Friday, August 7, 2026, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM, Saturday, August 8, 2026 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Mike Veilleux. Interment will follow at Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, NM. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

John was born October 12, 1928 to John Phillip and Vera Estell (Layne) Coleman in Mart, TX. He graduated from Mart High School in 1946. John earned a Bachelor of Science in industrial arts and a Master’s in industrial arts from North Texas University in Denton, TX. He married Barbara Jane Thompson June 24, 1954 in Pecos TX. John taught school with Carlsbad School District for 31 years before retiring. His entire life he enjoyed building; building anything from homes to games and anything in between. Barbara would design the homes, and he would build them. John often times opened his home to the youth kids at Sunset Church of Christ for them to play the many games he handmade. He volunteered at Skyridge Youth Camp for many years also acting as director of the camp. John always loved spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Barbara Jane Coleman, and sisters: Doris Spratt and Louise Rowat.

Survivors are his children: Randy Coleman and wife Donna, Nancy Dover and husband John; grandchildren, Matthew Dover, Jonathan Dover and wife, Meagan, Andrew Dover, Brett Dover and wife, Chloe, Elizabeth Coleman and husband, Daniel Mohan, and Jeffrey Coleman; 8 great- grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be John Dover, Jonathan Dover, Andrew Dover, Matthew Dover, Orlando Ortiz and Jeffrey Coleman.
