John E. Ruiz

John E. Ruiz passed away Saturday, August 30, 2025, one day after his 79th birthday. Visitation will be 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM, Wednesday, September 3, 2025 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home followed by a vigil at 6:30 PM. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 AM, Thursday, September 4, 2025 at Calvary Assembly with Pastor Phillip Price officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, NM.

John was born on August 29, 1946 in Carlsbad, NM to Juan and Maria (Carrasco) Ruiz. He graduated from Dinuba High School in California. John worked for Pennzoil Sulfur in Orla, Texas until retiring in the early 90s. He had a deep love for life’s simple pleasures. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. He enjoyed watching wrestling, going fishing, and spending time outdoors. He especially loved cooking—whether he was barbecuing for friends and family or making his signature asado, he was happiest behind the grill. John was known for his generous spirit and was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He will be deeply missed.

John was preceded in death by his parents; son, Johnnie Ruiz; wife, Alice Ruiz.

Survivors are his daughters: Michelle Sanchez, Audra Chan and husband, Juan; 6 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; siblings: John Billy Ruiz, Jaime P. Ruiz, Mary Jane Ruiz, Molly Garcia, and Adela Masterpolito.

Pallbearers will be Eric Martinez, Jesus Armendarez, III, Jonathan Armendarez, Steven Ellis, Juan Chan and Johnny “JoJo” Martinez.
