John R. Pineda, lovingly known as “Johnny,” passed away peacefully on May 5, 2026, in Lubbock, surrounded by his beloved wife of 55 years, Sheila Pineda, along with his children and grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM, Monday, May 11, 2026 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 AM, Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, NM.

Johnny was born on November 6, 1945, to Miguel and Adela Pineda. He will be remembered for his unwavering love for family, his kind heart, and the many cherished memories he created with those closest to him. His presence brought comfort, laughter, and strength to everyone who knew him.

Johnny dedicated 25 years of service to GTE before retiring. Following his retirement, he continued pursuing his strong work ethic and passion for helping others by opening his own HVAC company in 2012, which he proudly operated for many years. He was respected for his dedication, reliability, and willingness to serve his community through both his work and personal life.

Family was always at the center of Johnny’s life. He spent many years coaching his son and daughters in local sports and took great pride in supporting and encouraging his children both on and off the field. He also played an important role in organizing family reunions, as bringing loved ones together meant everything to him. Some of his favorite memories were made hunting and fishing with his family, children, and grandchildren, creating traditions and moments that will be cherished for generations.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Sheila Pineda, whose love and devotion stood beside him throughout his life.

Johnny is also lovingly remembered by his children: Michael Pineda and wife Daisy, Carla Navarrette and husband Paul, and Yvonne Hernandez and husband Brian.

He is also survived by his siblings, Mike Pineda, Elena Garcia, and Elise Contreras.

Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, Miguel and Adela Pineda; his sisters, Maria Gutierrez, Micaela Perez, Maria Luisa Arredondo, Rosa Sarabia, and Estefana Carrasco; and his brother, Manuel Pineda.

He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Johnna and significant other Johnny, Katrina and significant other Randy, Mariah and husband Manuel, Ryan and wife Danyell, Brian and wife Chanille, Anthony and wife Vanessa, Mackenzie, Jonmichael, Madelyn, Connor, Tiffany, and Christofer.

Johnny was further blessed with 12 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy, pride, and love into his life. His love, wisdom, and memory will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
