John D. Westfall, Sr.

John D. Westfall, Sr. passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, November 15, 2023.  Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM, Monday, November 20, 2023 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, NM.

He was born April 4, 1949 in Shinnston, West Virginia to Johnny and Kathleen (Fortney) Westfall.  John moved with his family to Carlsbad, NM at the age of 6.  He attended Sunset Elementary, Mid-High and graduated from Carlsbad Senior High with the class of 1968.  John first met Brenda Smith when he was 15 years old, they later met again and married on January 9, 1976.  He worked at PCA Potash that later became Mississippi Potash, until his retirement.  John worked his whole life. He painted cars, remodeled his home, and always thought of new projects to do.  He loved camping, hunting in the mountains, and fishing with his friends and family. 

John was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, James and Geneva Smith; uncle and aunt, Jack and Lee Oliver, and uncle and aunt, Don and Betty Boyd.

Survivors are his wife of 48 years, Brenda Westfall; daughter, Dawnell Westfall and Javier; sons: Jimmy Westfall and Kari, John Westfall, Jr. and Annella; grandkids: Johnathan Cotz and Sara, Joel Barrett, Jaelee Bourque, Laura Vasey and Brandon, McKayla Westfall, Jimma Westfall and Kaitlyn, Johnna Westfall and Anthony, Sophie Westfall, Phoebe Westfall, Tristan Westfall, Jenae Westfall and Avery Westfall; great-grandkids: Bryson Vasey, Laikyn Vasey, Hayes Vasey, Lawson Vasey and Amaya Pietz; cousins: Donald and Richard Boyd.

Pallbearers will be Joel Barrett, Anthony Pietz, Juan Garza, Jaelee Bourque, Jimma Westfall and Jaime Elizondo.
