Joe L. Castillo

Joe L. Castillo, 56, of Carlsbad, NM, passed away after a sudden decline in his health due to pulmonary fibrosis on Monday, April 1, 2024, at Covenant Health Hospital in Hobbs, NM. 

Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 PM, Monday, April 8, 2024 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at Oasis Church with Pastor Gabe Rubio officiating. Interment will follow at Carlsbad Cemetery. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. 

Joe was born on May 26, 1967, in Carlsbad, NM to Jose and Mary (Larez) Castillo. 

Joe worked in the oilfield and mining industry for many years as a sandblaster/painter, mechanic and equipment operator. During the last five years, Joe worked for the City of Carlsbad, in the Facility Maintenance Department. He always enjoyed the outdoors, he loved camping, hunting, fishing, golfing, riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and trail riding with friends on the side-by-side. Joe was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys. He loved his family very dearly, especially his grandkids. 

Joe was preceded in death by his parents Jose and Mary Castillo. He is survived by his fiancé, Priscilla Yanez; daughters, Jessica Nicole Bishop of Lubbock, TX and Kasey Yanez (Sammy Olguin) of Carlsbad NM; brother, Bill Castillo and sister, Virgie Estrada, both of Carlsbad NM; grandkids: Lariah, Joshua, Jeramiah, Maddox and Adelynn of Lubbock TX; Surenity, Justo, and Cristiano of Carlsbad NM; and numerous nieces and nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews.  

Pallbearers will be: Jeff Estrada, Jeremy Estrada, Robert Castillo, Harold Prater, Luke White, Tommy Castillo and Rino Contreras. Honorary pallbearers will be: Rookie Rookstool, Roberto Larez, and the City of Carlsbad Facility Maintenance Crew.
