Jimmi Marrs, of Carlsbad, NM, entered her heavenly home after passing away peacefully Friday, June 5, 2026 surrounded by her family. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 AM, Saturday, June 13, 2026 at First Baptist Church with Keith Berryman officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, NM. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Jimmi was born on August 13, 1940 in Carlsbad, NM to Gerald and Henrietta (Price) Elmore. She graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1958 and married her high school sweetheart, John Marrs, later that year August 24, 1958.
Jimmi was a devout Christian who embodied the teachings of Christ in all areas of her life. She was endlessly patient, rich with love, and had a brilliant mind, and she shared these gifts openly and freely in service to the Lord and her family. She taught bible study at First Baptist Church for many years, and she provided a living example for her family, friends, and neighbors with every day that she lived.
Alongside her faith, Jimmi’s family was the central focus of her life. She thrived when all her kids were together, and she loved any excuse to gather her family for incredible feasts. Being the matriarch of her family was a highlight and focus of her life, and she was known as Mimi by many more people than she was actually related to. Everyone was welcome and everyone would be fed.
Jimmi was most gifted in being able to reach people on their level, and she would spend her free time learning and understanding the interests of her kids so that she could always relate and engage in their lives.
Jimmi was an avid reader, learner, and teacher. She was kind, patient, and always had the right thing to say.
She fought the good fight, she finished the race, she kept her faith. There is laid up for her the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will give to her on that Day. (2 Timothy 4:7-8)
And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love. (1 Corinthians 13:13)
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald and Henrietta Elmore as well as her husband John Marrs.
Survivors are her sons: Johnny Marrs and wife, Peggy, Greg Marrs and wife, Jessica, Jason Marrs and wife, Isa; grandchildren: Crista Bullock and husband, Brad, Eric Marrs, Cody Marrs and wife, Tinnie, Amanda Kemp and husband, Justin, Maya Marrs, and Aaron Marrs; seven great-grandchildren; sister Marie Ryan and husband Jim; and a multitude of nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Carlsbad First Baptist Church Youth Ministry.
