Jim "Sonny" Gould

Jim “Sonny” Gould, 80, of W. McKay Street, Carlsbad, NM, passed away Sunday, April 12, 2026, at his home in Carlsbad. A private graveside service will be held.

Jim was born on December 3, 1945, in St. Paul, Minnesota, where he later graduated from Central High School. He made his way to California before eventually settling in Carlsbad in 1974, a place he would call home for many years.

Jim dedicated 30 years of hard work to Mosaic, retiring in 2008. Outside of his career, he found joy in weight training, landscaping, and, most of all, his lifelong love of dogs. He often said the average dog is nicer than the average person—a belief he carried into his volunteer work with Noah’s Ark. As a lifelong liberal, Jim was known to say… If BS was snow, Trump would be an orange blizzard. A devoted Minnesota Vikings fan, he held onto hope for a Super Bowl victory… SKOL.

Jim was especially grateful for the support and friendship of John Swackhamer and Rhonda Wade, who stood by him during his declining health.
