Jere “J.R.” Galle, 77, was born on September 8, 1945, in Hobbs, NM to Adell and Vella Galle. He spent a large part of growing up in Jal, NM where he met his love, Darlyne Miller. He married her 9 years later. J.R. and Darlyne had 53 fabulous years together. They had two amazing children, Lane and Lisa, 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, whom he loved making memories with.
J.R. loved the U.S.A with all of his heart. He went to Field Medical School and then to Portsmouth Hospital on the Neurosurgical Ward for a year. He received a Command Commendation for writing a procedures manual with the senior charge nurse. There he met some life-long friends, David Lee, Robert Sutherland, Don Ford and others. In 1969, he was attached to 2nd Battalion 5th Marines as their Navy Corpsman and sent to Vietnam for a year with 200 Marines where unfortunately only 87 returned.
J.R. got his degree in Biology & Minor in Earth Science. He was a Science Teacher in Logan for 2 years. He was an Environmentalist for the State, then a Safety Engineer at AMAX Potash. He worked for Dravo, Westinghouse and eventually retired from the Department of Energy as a Program Manager of Security and Emergency Operations.
J.R. spent many years as a member of the volunteer rescue squad. He loved shooting, teaching his family and friends gun safety, flying, geocaching, motorcycle riding, jet skiing, coffee with the “Liars Club”, but most of all, spending time with his family and friends. Oh, and don’t forget those COWBOYS!
J.R. is preceded in death by his parents; both brothers, D.E. and Glynn Marshall Galle; 2 nephews, Danny and Ronnie Galle; SIL, Marie; FIL, Fred Miller; and MIL, Lois Miller. He is survived by his wife, Darlyne; son, Lane; daughter, Lisa (Shawn); grandchildren: Randa (Jason), Heather, Krista, Nicole (Alex), & Ryan; 4 great-grandchildren: SIL, Jayne; SIL, Adel Miller; BIL, Roy (Doris) Miller; many nieces and nephews, and numerous other relatives and very good friends.
The Memorial Service will be held at Denton-Wood Funeral Home at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 5, 2023, at 1001 N. Canal St. Please, join the family after the memorial at the Boys & Girls Club Event Center at 206 E. Pecan Street for dinner and visiting.
