Jazell Jean Florez Duran

Jazell Jean Florez Duran was born November 1, 1974. Jazell went to be with the Lord on May 2, 2026 at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas at 11:52 a.m. She was surrounded by her son, mother, and siblings at her time of passing. Jazell was loved by many. Anyone that knew her was drawn to her big spirit and goofy ways. She had a huge sense of family and fiercely stood up for what she believed in. Jazell was a loyal and passionate fan of the LA Dodgers, Dallas Cowboys, and UNM Lobos. She had a love for music and never missed the opportunity to dance at any given moment. Cooking for those she loved was her love language, with green enchiladas and pineapple upside down cake being her signature dishes. Jazell played softball from the age of 7 well into her teenage years. She was very strong in her faith and always had a prayer in her heart for those she loved. Her favorite shows were Friends, Sheldon and the Big Bang Theory. Jazell loved her job. She practiced private home healthcare and had undeniable compassion in caring for others, including her life partner, Robert Galindo.

Jazell also had a great love for her extended Galindo family. The late Virginia and Ricky Galindo of Carlsbad, brothers-in-law, Ryan Galindo of Carlsbad, and sister-in-law, Gina Galindo of Albuquerque, NM.

She was preceded in death by her father, Manuel Duncan Duran of Carlsbad; daughter, Mariah Denae-Noel Chavez, and son, Isaiah Chavez, both of Carlsbad.

Jazell is survived by her life partner, Robert Galindo; children: Izaya Chavez of Carlsbad, Dominique Chavez of Clovis, NM; three grandchildren: Brenlie Chavez, Preslie Chavez of Clovis, NM, and Emiliano Chavez of Carlsbad, NM; sisters: Jennifer Parham, Joleen and Lupe Lara, Jaclyn Duran and Thurman Grays, all of Carlsbad, NM, Josette Duran of Albuquerque, NM, and Janda Duran of Dallas, TX; brother, John Duran and Clarissa Duarte of Carlsbad, NM; many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Jazell had an abundance of nieces and nephews. She had a unique bond with each one of them, giving them all nicknames with a tune of their own. She was the best auntie ever! Jazell will be dearly missed and never forgotten.

Honorary pallbearers will be Floyd Lee, Brytnee Duran, Taelyn Duran, Jeffery Duran, Emiliano “Lingo” Chavez, Dylan Duran, Kayla Parham, Matthew Elizondo, Joeann Bernard, and Gabrielle Parham.
