Janet “Jan” Peters, 90, of Cimarron Trail, passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2025 at Lakeview Christian Home. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 AM, Thursday, June 26, 2025 at First Methodist Church with Pastor Kelly McCuaig officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, NM. Jan was born July 7, 1934 in Detroit, Michigan to Arnold and Anne (Milne) Jacobsen. She graduated from Mackenzie High School in Detroit, MI in 1952. She then moved to Indiana to attend Huntington College. There she met Robert Peters and they were married in 1956. After graduation Bob went to work for the National Park Service and they lived in many different places. From the Great Smoky Mountains, where she had three kids and no electricity to Cape Cod, Jan was a trooper and rolled with the flow. She embraced each move and made it home. They eventually moved west to Carlsbad in 1974. She was active in First Methodist Church, Christian Women's Club and raising four kids. She loved singing in choir and made some dear friends during those years. In 1989 they returned to a park in Sulphur, Oklahoma. where they lived till 2003. Those were some of their best years. Jan was very involved in Sulphur Methodist church where she did everything from financial secretary to teaching bible school. She enjoyed the gardening club, bible studies, entertaining, shopping and most of all traveling and spending time with wonderful friends. Grandsons Kyle and Wesley got to spend a week or two with them many summers. She took them swimming, critter catching in the streams and to Braums for lunch and ice cream! Great memories indeed. They returned to Carlsbad in 2003 to be close to kids and grandkids. She loved her church family at First Methodist Church and especially enjoyed her Sunday school "Betty's Class". She was involved in PEO and Carlsbad Hospital Auxiliary. After Bob passed, she moved to Riverbend where she enjoyed the weekly coffee gatherings, bible study and friends in that community. She had a deep, strong faith, a loving, humble spirit and a very dry sense of humor that will be missed.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bob Peters; grandson, Kyle Z. Burnett, and brother, Chuck Jacobsen.
Survivors are her sons: Gary Peters and wife, Jennifer, Jody Peters; daughters: Susan Brooks, Peggy Schneberger and husband, Stephen; grandsons: Wesley Burnett and wife, Kayla, Luke Peters; granddaughter-in-law, Katelynn Burnett; great-grandchildren: Kylynn, Numa, Wells, and Banks Burnett; brother, Bobby Jacobsen and sister-in-law, Lola Lee Peters.
