James “Jim” Monk, 66, of N. 2nd Street, Carlsbad, NM, passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2025 at his home. Cremation has taken place and private family services will be held at a later date.
Jim was born May 13, 1959 in Georgia to Charles and Mildred (Weldon) Monk. He graduated from Artesia High School in 1977. Jim received an associate’s degree in electronics from ENMU-Roswell. He worked as an electrician throughout his life. Jim was proud of the fact that he was a published author along with his siblings. He was affectionately known as “Grandpa Chip” by his great-grandchildren whom he loved dearly. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Colleen Monk.
Survivors are his daughters: Lisa Monk and Rocky Balderrama, Lori Sanchez and husband, Johnny; grandchildren: Savannah Balderrama, Byran Balderrama, Roque Balderrama, Jr., Alec Ortiz, Mallory Sanchez, and Anthony Sanchez; great-grandchildren: Jenasis, Micah, Aria, Keidrik, Kai, Roque III, and Zachariah; siblings: Charles Monk, Jr. and wife, Cheri, Tim Monk, Kathy Reynolds and husband, Mike, Gary Monk, and numerous nieces and nephews.
