Obituary Jack Hayes, 68, of Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2020 surrounded by his family. Jack was born February 1, 1952 to Steve and Virginia Hayes in Hobbs, New Mexico. Shortly after they moved to Carlsbad, New Mexico. Jack attended Carlsbad schools and graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1970. He attended Northwood University and received his Bachelor'sdegree. He worked driving water trucks, at several potash mines, at a copper mine, as an electrician, retired from WIPP, drove buses for New Mexico Transportation (especially for the Bat Brigade and Special Olympics) and JK Auto and Diesel. He was literally a "Jack" of all trades. He married his wife, Marsha on June 2, 1978. Jack was a wonderful son, husband, father, grandfather, and brother. Jack loved his family very much and would do anything for anyone. He served his country for six years in the Marines in the 3rd Marine Division as a Sergeant. He flew planes and scuba dived in the USMC. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Rifle Sharpshooter Badge, Vietnam Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He was a past member of the Queen Search and Rescue, Queen Volunteer Fire Department and Happy Valley Fire Department. He loved spending time at his place in Capitan, hiking in the mountains and participating in the Bataan Memorial Death March. He also built two full size stagecoach replicas from the ground up. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Steve Hayes and Virginia Manns, and brother, Jerry Hayes. He is survived by his wife, Marsha Hayes, son, Jason Hayes and wife Ashley, daughter, Jennifer Long and husband David, grandchildren, Justin, Kaitlyn, Logan, Ashlynn, Alonna, Chrisani, Austin, Hailey and Makayla, brother, Hank Manns, aunt Helen Piehl and numerouscousins. Memorial Services will be held at a later date. His ashes will be placed at the Angel Fire Vietnam Veterans Memorial and Cemetery.
