Harry Dean Hammer, Jr.

Harry Dean Hammer, Jr., beloved son, brother, uncle, husband and friend passed away February 25, 2023 in Phoenix, Arizona. He was born to Harry Dean Hammer Sr. and Betty Jean Allen on November 1, 1964 in Carlsbad, NM.

Dean was one of a kind.  He could light up a room with his beautiful smile and made everyone feel special.  If you met him, you were considered his friend for life!

He grew up in Carlsbad enjoying many different activities including motocross, going to the shooting range and participating in the Highland games held across the state.

When he was a young man, he joined the U.S. Air Force and was very proud of his service and carrying on the family tradition of military service which goes back to the Revolutionary War.

He was an avid football fan and enjoyed rooting for the New Orleans Saints!

He met his wife, Donna, and they married in August 2018 in a beautiful ceremony in Cloudcroft. She stayed by his side, supporting and taking care of him until the end.

Dean was a great animal lover, attested to by his love and care of Harley, Sarge and Oakley who have all passed on.

As we lay Dean to rest after his long hard-fought battle with health problems, we all need to remember his love for life and for each one of us.  He would want us to be happy and enjoy each moment in life.

Rest in peace, Dean. We love you.

Dean was preceded in death by his grandparents, Everett and Helen Hammer and Guy Allen and Jean Hepner and his Uncle Jerry Lee Hammer.

Left to cherish his memory are his father, Harry Hammer Sr. (June), his mother, Betty Long (Jack), his sister Teresa Littrell (Ken), his nephew Zachary Littrell, niece Mackenzie Littrell, and his wife Donna, as well as many relatives and friends across this great country.

Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service is scheduled for 2:00 PM Saturday, March 11, 2023, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Sunset Gardens Memorial Park. Denton-Wood Funeral Home, Carlsbad, NM is in charge of arrangements.
